| Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was released on July 16, 2005. The Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is the sixth novel of seven novels of the popular Harry Potter series written by J.K Rowling. The Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has been set during Harry Potter's sixth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The Half-Blood Prince discovers Lord Voldemort's past, and Harry's preparations for the final battle against Voldemort amidst emerging romantic relationships and the emotional confusions and conflicts of mid-adolescence. The Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was an instant hit and sold a record breaking nine million copies in the first 24 hours after its release. |
Before school starts Voldemort and his Death Eaters openly wreak havoc throughout Britain. following a public outcry Cornelius Fudge, Minister for Magic resigned and Rufus Scrimgeour succeeded him. Severus Snape is sworn to an Unbreakable Vow by Draco Malfoy's mother Narcissa at his home in Spinner's End. Although distrusted by Narcissa’s sister, Bellatrix Lestrange, Snape agrees to protect Draco.
During the summer, Albus Dumbledore recruits Harry Potter's to persuade retired professor Horace Slughorn to return to his old Hogwarts post. Harry spends the holiday at The Burrow with the Weasleys and Hermione. Bill Weasley gets engaged to Fleur Delacour, the Beauxbatons champion in the Triwizard Tournament, while Harry realized that he was falling for Ginny. In Diagon Alley, Harry, Ron and Hermione spot Draco Malfoy and followed him. At Borgin & Burkes, a dark magic shop in Knockturn Alley, they found Malfoy threatening Mr. Borgin about repairing one item and keeping another safe. They suspected Draco to be a Death Eater and Harry decides to keep a close watch on him.
As school begins, Snape is announced as the new instructor of the Defence Against the Dark Arts while Slughorn replaces him as the Potions teacher. Death Eaters continue to attack throughout the year. On the first Hogsmeade visit, Katie Bell, a Gryffindor student, gets seriously injured while carrying a cursed necklace, apparently while under the Imperius Curse. In another incident, Ron accidentally drinks poisoned mead intended for Dumbledore but is saved by Harry. Hermione and Ron after a lot of troubled relation over Ron dating Lavender Brown and her relationship with Viktor Krum, reunite; Meanwhile, Harry realizes his true feelings for Ginny, although she was dating Dean Thomas.
Meanwhile Harry learns about Voldemort’s past from Dumbledore. But when Harry found Malfoy sobbing in Moaning Mytle’s bathroom they curse each other and Harry causes huge cuts across Malfoy’s body with his Prince’s Shells. Eventually Snape comes and saves Malfoy and Harry is detained and Snape confiscated his Harry’s Potions Book. But Harry gave Ron’s copy. When tharry and Dumbledore returns to Hogsmeade, they see Voldemort hovering over Hogwarts. As they fly to the Astronomy tower on borrowed bush they are confronted by Draco. Dumbledore paralyses Harry under his invisible cloak just before Draco disarms Dumbledore. Draco admitted that he was behind all the school attacks and helped the death eaters enter the school. All the faculty and students fought the death eaters below the castle while Dumbledore is killed by Snape. Upon Dumbledore’s death Harry regains consciousness. Snape calls himself as the Half-Blood Prince and escapes with Draco. The year ends abruptly with the funeral of Dumbledore. Profeesor McGonagall becomes the interim headmistress of Hogwarts and Professor Slughorn replaces Snape as the head of Slytherin.
It is expected that the movie version of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will be released on November 21 2008. The movie will be directed by David Yates.
