The books of Harry Potter series are bestsellers all over the world and are hot favorites among kids. The author and the publishers have earned huge revenue by selling editions and editions of these books and films have also been made on five stories. But if there is a smell of rose then there is pinch of thorn too. In the past few years, different types of controversies about Harry Potter have worked like fly on the ointment.
Controversy about Harry Potter caught the limelight for the first time in the year 2002 when some people started to say that the stories of Harry Potter are making a wrong impact on the children. According a few groups of people, the stories of Harry Potter were attracting young children to learn magic which could be very dangerous. They even appealed for banning the books of Harry Potter's series. The controversy was mainly related to the magical art that have been described in the books and have been portrayed in the films in a better way making them more attractive for children. Some people started saying that children in their homes are also attempting to fly on brooms and are demanding for going to schools of black magic.
Apart from that, controversy about Harry Potter also included religious and communal angles too. Sometimes, parents have complained about their children's demand for learning black magic. Besides, a group of people have said that the way Lord Voldemort (the evil power in the wizard world) has been described in the books and the films is very close to the description and the picture of Satan that we see in books. They have also started saying that this could hurt the sentiments of people belonging to Christian religious communities.
Apart from that, some people especially teachers of schools appealed for keeping Harry Potter's books only in the library of the schools and not to allow reading in class rooms as they believed that some activities that Harry Potter performs in Hogwarts are very close to some traditional forms of ancient arts which could be dangerous for small kids to know.
Legal disputes that came up in the later phase are also important parts of controversy about Harry Potter. However, people in favor of Harry Potter have also argued a lot and have countered the attacks made by people with their logic.
